mosadi wa motswana

Otse, Botswana

A year ago today I Left Botswana and took a ridiculously long convaluded flight back to Canada. Two days before I left I met a woman on the street and I was trying desperately to speak as much Setswana as I could during our conversation. When we parted ways she turned around and said you are a true mosadi wa motswana; which means botswana lady. It was a proud moment in my life and even though its been a year since I have felt the africian sun on my skin, I still feel like the country, people and continent are a part of my soul. Im not sure when Ill be back in real life but right now my dreams are filled with rooibos tea, combi's and hot gentle breezes.

Devil's Pool

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The Falls are locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya , which translates as "the smoke that thunders", are a fantastic sight to see at any time of day but watching the sun set while swimming at the top victoria falls was one of the most exhilirating moments I think I will ever experience.

drifting through the reeds

gliding across the okavango delta in a Mokoro, was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. Even though I knew thousands of people had navigated their way through the water ways of the delta it felt like I was David Livingstone discovering one of the wonders of the world.

starting a new year by reflecting on the past few.

It is hard for me to believe that we are beginning a new year or for that matter a new decade. In ten years so much has happened that I can't even begin to explain. So I will just reflect on one memory. The summer of 2006 I spent backpacking europe with one of my girl friends. This had been a life long dream finally realized at the age of 20. While standing looking out the window at the Musee D'orsay over the City of Paris I could actually feel I was on the threshold of some amazing things. That summer turned out to be a life changing trip that I'll never forget.

The beginning of this decade feels oddly similar to the feeling of looking out over Paris. I can't predict what the new year will bring for me but I can hope for love and laughter, friendships and adventure just like I hoped from that window in Paris.
